Is Duplicate Content making you LOSE MONEY?

There's no two ways about it.... Duplicate content is bad news. Stung by past manipulation by page scrapers and search engine spammers, it looks like the recent algo changes at Google and other search engines are actively seeking to shutdown or downgrade sites with duplicate text. The 'corrective' action ranges from ranking downgrades to outright domain/webserver IP bannings.

How do you avoid duplicate content penalties?

Step 1: Detect
If you've experienced some slippage in your SERPS, make sure you're not using duplicate content. Try running Copyscape on your site URL to see if there's other sites copying portions of your content. If you see your stuff copied, find out who their host is and send out a DMCA notification. Here's an example. By purging your content's copies online, you may be able to preserve your content's originality status with the search engines.

Step 2: Prevent
Make sure you check the originality of your own content by running your text against Copyscape or other duplicate content checkers. If you buy your content, make sure you buy them from reputable content creators who do extensive duplicate checking on all their materials.

Step 3: Be Vigilant
Always check Copyscape periodically to see if your content has been scraped or copied.
